Discover Belconnen
Belconnen is the second town centre of Canberra ACT.
Development commenced in 1967 and by 2011 its population
had reached 92,444. It is larger than many provincial
cities in Australia.

of Statistics (which has its headquarters in Belconnen)
Belconnen's statistical profile was as follows:
- 45,670 (49.4 per cent) of its population was male
- 46,774 (50.6 per cent) of its population was female
- median age of 34.0 years
Belconnen's labour market - 2011 census
In 2011 Belconnen had 46,111 persons employed, 32,632
full time and 13,479 part time. The proportion of part
timers was 29.2 per cent. The number unemployed was
1,940 and the unemployment rate was 4.0 per cent. The
number of persons not in the Labour force was 20,120
and the labour force participation rate was 70.5 per
cent.

Bruce, Aranda, Weetangara and Hawker have Belconnen's
most expensive houses. The cheapest housing is in Charnwood.
Over the last two years house prices have risen by over
40 per cent in both Aranda and Bruce. Belconnen (the
suburb) has few houses but units there have seen price
declines over the years. The median price for a unit
was 365,000 in 2016 compared to 398,000 in 2013.
Over the last 9 years the annual average increase in
house prices was greatest in Bruce at 7.0 per cent,
the lowest was in Macgregor at 2.6 per cent.
*What is a median? It divides a data set in two,
as the median strip divides a road. One half the values
are below it and one half above.
Major Institutions
Belconnen has a university, the University of Canberra,
a campus of the Canberra Institute of Technology, the
Australian Institute of Sport, Canberra Stadium
(home of the Canberra Raiders-RL, ARL premiers 1989,
1990 and 1994 and ACT Brumbies-RU, premiers Super 12
in 2001 and 2004!!!). Bruce Indoor Stadium and a major
public hospital (Calvary).
Commercial
The centre of Belconnen is Lake Ginninderra, which
has on its southern shore the Belconnen mall and a number
of other retail premises.
