Our heritage

The Belconnen Community Council (BCC) was founded in the wake of significant political and administrative changes in the ACT, namely the introduction of self government and creation of a 17-member Legislative Assembly in March 1989.

Recognising the need for a stronger community voice amidst increasing political discord, residents and local organisations of Belconnen came together on 10 April 1991. This gathering laid the groundwork for what would become a pivotal community institution.

The inaugural meeting of the BCC, held at Ginninderra College on 17 May 1991 brought together concerned residents, business owners, and political figures alike, leading to the adoption of 10 major objectives for the newly formed council.

These objectives, refined in subsequent gatherings, focused on providing a structured, influential voice for the Belconnen community.

In January 1992, the BCC was registered as an incorporated body, marking the beginning of our dedicated service to the Belconnen region.
